Aristotle also known as the chief of philosophers believes that happiness is our final good. He believes that we should live by his moral and intellectual virtues listed in the video hosted by Professor Robert Bartlett at Emory University. His idea is that we live to pursue happiness. Moral virtues are based on your actions and character and intellectual virtues are centered on the excellence of the mind and understanding. Bartlett mentions that pleasure, wealth and honor make up happiness, and that wealth alone isn’t true happiness. He based his beliefs off the views of Christians, Jews and Muslims.

Albert Camus thought the idea of human beings needing a meaning or understanding is absurdity. Camus believed that it’s the easy way out to follow a system of living, it’s cowardly. He explains that life is meaningless but has a purpose; that everything doesn’t have to be planned. He didn’t believe in committing to one thing or title; he just54 %

lived. According to the notes, Camus says we have the choice to either believe in something, commit suicide(however he doesn’t promote it) or find meaning in the experience of living itself.

Watts’s ideas are similar to both Camus and Aristotle to a certain degree. Some may ask, how? Aristotle believes in religion, and that life has meaning Watts believes that there is no greater meaning of life than that of a relationship between God and a man. Watts and Camus both believe that happiness is found through experiences. Watts as well as Camus believes there doesn’t have to be a plan or a goal and that we should find meaning in the experience of living itself.

Aristotle believes the good life should be planned and well structured, using his basic way of living. Camus believes that we should choose to live without rules or committing. Watts believes the good life consist of man and god to pursue happiness and joy. I see Watts’s idea operating in my life. I’m a firm believer of god. I see Camus and Watts idea helping me purse my own good life because they are based on one’s own choices and experiences. I learned from this assignment that it’s okay when I fall alongside my plans, but to be pursue happiness by my own experiences and to find my own good life, and don’t base it off others and what they believe to be the good life.
