My name is Devin Colson; by the name some may assume I’m male, guess again. I am a twenty-two year old female from a small town just fifteen minutes outside of Gainesville in Alachua FL. I graduated Gainesville High School in 2011, I applied and was accepted into the College Achievement Program that summer and then started my actual classes that fall. I just recently switched my major from psychology to nursing, with one more semester to go of prerequisites. I plan on applying to the program here at Santa Fe or at Rasmussen College of Nursing in Ocala, FL.After graduation I would like to become a pediatric intensive care nurse and possible further my education and become a nurse practioner (ARNP) .
I honestly took this course because I felt as though this was the one that I could actually learn something from and apply it to my daily life. On top of that I haven’t taken many online classes, so I had to choose a subject that would keep me engaged. I do understand that humanities are the umbrella for a variety of subtopics; such as, the study of classical language, literature, music, religion and more. I haven’t taken any humanities classes prior to this one and I hope to learn a vast amount of topics this semester. My hopes for this humanities class will be to gain a more positive perception of our world and the different cultures amongst us,as well as, learning and comparing the humanities and how they have evolved over time. I believe that having an understanding of this can give me a better insight into life and people mucher better while pursing my education.
I am currently employed at the University of Florida Health, better known as Shands. Also, I live in a college town, home of the Florida Gators so I would say I encounter humanities on a daily basis. At work I’m always interacting with people from different cultural background, religious beliefs, and different ways of thinking and perspectives.
